The right mindset is an essential and integral part of achievement. During his motor racing years Alex worked hard on the psychological aspects that give the edge towards achieving success. Setting out his beliefs and guiding principals as a mental aide he wrote his “Stone of Life”.
These are the key beliefs that he carried with him throughout his life and give a great insight into the beliefs and values that shaped the man. Divided into three segments – Truths of Life; Values; and Life Focus. The Truths and Values led and guided Alex to arrive at his Life Focus which he continued to follow.
Truths of Life:
- Life isn’t fair
- Life is what you make of it
- Hard work is required to achieve
- Everybody fails sometimes
- Nobody is going to give you something for nothing
- You can’t PB (personal best) every time / not every day can be a great day
- Not everybody is destined to succeed
- Happy endings are not guaranteed
Values:
- Things worth achieving are tough
- Life is about the journey not the destination
- People will help you but ultimately are seeking their own goals in the process
- Not everybody is going to like you – you are not going to like everybody
Life Focus:
- Do what makes you happy
- Follow your dreams
- Don’t pay too much attention to what others think
- Don’t conform
- Be the best you can be – push yourself to the limits
- Don’t ever quit half way – see things through until the end
- It is better to have tried and failed than not having tried
- Remember who you are and where you have come from
- Stay away from those that you don’t respect
- Respect yourself
